Fan Zhang is the Lead Economist and Global Lead for Water, Economy and Jobs at the World Bank Group. She leads a team working at the intersection of water, jobs and economic transformation, providing economic evidence to inform operations, strengthen policy dialogue, and support water sector reforms. She previously worked in the Offices of the Chief Economist for Infrastructure; South Asia; and Europe and Central Asia as well as in the Energy and Extractives Global Practice at the World Bank. She has authored several books and published widely in peer-reviewed journals. Before joining the World Bank, she was an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University. She holds a PhD in environmental economics from Harvard University.
